What Happened at Leeds in Barcelona 2011
What Happened?

A collective of Leeds creative talent touched down at Leeds Bradford International Airport on Sunday 22nd May after a massively successful trip Barcelona to promote Leeds’ emerging creative economy and further strengthen the ties between the two cities.
Following on from the success of the original ‘Leeds in Barcelona’ event in 2010, Marketing Leeds worked with Leeds based company Hebe Media and one of Spain’s most influential fashion websites, LeLook, on ‘Leeds in Barcelona - a creative encounter’ which took place from 20th – 22nd May.


The collective consisted of a bunch of talented Leeds people including: fashion designer’s Dom, Dick & Harry and James Steward, DJ’s BacktoBasics and up and coming Leeds band ICS as well key influencers including Shang Ting Peng, who runs the UK Observing Diary and Imran Ali of Carbon Imagineering. The event proved a great success with an audience of over 900 opinion formers from Barcelona experiencing a snapshot of Leeds through a number of fashion events and performances from the talented individuals who were involved.
Here’s what happened whilst we were there:
A Panel Debate

A panel discussion at the European Institute of Design (IED) in front of an audience of 100 consisting of opinion formers and students. The speakers from Leeds consisted of tech expert Imran Ali, musician Guiseppe De Luca and fashion designer Dominic Al-Samarraie who talked about the Leeds creative scene and what it was like to be part of it.
The Big Event



A feature showcase event where 800 Spanish opinion formers gathered to discover more about Leeds with fashion showcases from a selection of the city’s top designers including James Steward, Dom, Dick & Harry and Nicholas Deakin. Music was provided by up and coming Leeds band ICS who showcased their new e.p at the event and the evening finished with a DJ set from world renowned club night BacktoBasics.

The event was attended by the media Spanish media including Spanish television so watch this space for coverage.
